Competitors will face fierce competition from the other developers and you’re sure to see some great games made. What I love about these competitions is that you never know what kind of games people are going to make and some games are actually really good! Actually, Where am I?, a game made for the Ludum Dare competition, similar to this FGL Developer Competition, got their game onto Armor Games!

Like most of these tourneys there will be a theme, that is still to be announced. The eighth FGL Developer Competition will start up on June 9, 2011, just another couple of weeks away! So get thinking of a great idea for a game and be prepared to execute it on the 9! The grand prize for this competition is Adobe Flash CS5 (the newest version of Flash). Second and third place prizes will also be winnable, but they have announced just yet what second and third will take home.

Anyway, I hope to see a lot of participation in the event and I hope to see a lot of great games, at least for what can be done in a single day! You can learn a lot more about the competition in the link below.

FGL Developer Competition #8 (Details and Rules)

If you don’t know what the Kongregate App is, it has hundreds of Kongregate games, all prepared to play on your Android phone. Anyway, Kongregate is now started up a contest with 25,000 USD on the line! Kongregate wants YOU to develop a mobile game for their app! The best game will receive 6,000 USD, second place will receive 4,000, third to tenth will get 1,125 dollars each and finally, fifteen runner-ups will get 400 dollars each.

Here is the judging criteria! There are also a couple of features that Kong considers “extra credit” which Kongregatre will definitely be looking for when considering the winners: “OPTIMIZED FOR DELIVERY ACROSS MULTIPLE DEVICES: Flash Player 10.1 will be available for a broad range of mobile devices, including smartphones, netbooks and other Internet-connected devices, allowing your content to reach your customers wherever they are. As with Flash Player 10, this release also supports Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 (“Snow Leopard”) desktop operating systems. OTHER: Utilize the device’s input options – accelerometer (AS3-only), DPAD, trackball. Create with swipe friendly interactions. Allow player to resume last game. Built using AIR for mobile.” – Extra credit. You are also allowed to modify one of your current web-friendly games, or upload one of your already currently mobile friendly to work on mobile and then enter it in the contest!

Kongregate is definitely looking for creative games! The games also need to not be too processor intensive and are touch-screen friendly!

On that page is couple example of some really good mobile games, that already on the Kongregate App. A couple of tutorial, guidelines and best practices for mobile game development, are also viewable on the page.

Your goal is to create a fun game that synchronizes music and unique gameplay! Basically, create a game that completely revolves around the music! Take Streamline, or really any of Coolio_Niato’s games for example, and that’s a kind of premise for what you want your game to be like – but don’t restrict yourself in any means! I hope to see some really creative games come out of this and hopefully for the music-game genre to expand and evolve! Since the contest is being hosted on Kongregate.com, you may upload either Unity 3D games, or Flash games! The grand prize, as voted on by the judges, Tetsuya Mizuguchi, Ubisoft, Riccardo Torres, and Kongregate, is a whopping 10,000 USD, second place is 3,000 USD and finally, third gets 2,000 USD!
