Kogregate has announced that they will be hosting a Unity game development contest in celebration  of their, new, support for Unity games on their website! There are over $25,000 dollars worth in prizes (or 19,063 EURs). The top 25 games will automatically become finalists and winners will be determined by creativity, innovation, use of Unity and how fun the game is in general. The Unity Game Development Contest will last from now, until February 15, 2011 – that gives you just about two months to get an amazing game together with the Unity software. Voting will take place between February 15 and February 22. There is no theme for this contest, so try to make your entry as creative as possible.

You can learn more about the contest here and you can learn about the complete rules of eligibility here.

You can also view many amazing, in-depth tutorials for Unity here that cover a variety of genres, such as third person platformers to action-packed racing games. Also, on that page you will find tutorials for drawing terrain for your game (since Unity is a 3D engine of sorts lighting and terrain is essential).

Here’s a bit on Unity:

Unity is a multi-platform game development tool, designed from the start to ease creation of everything from 3D web games to Wii and iPhone games. A fully integrated professional application, Unity just happens to contain the most powerful engine this side of a million dollars and is totally free!

Unity is used by the developers such as EA for Tiger Woods Gold from EA, Cartoon Network for Fusion Fall and the upcoming Lego Star Wars game, the Quest for R2-D2.
